[the] Rev Is Alive With The Sound Of Music.

“I’m always alright.

I am blessed to know a big bunch of musical people, some of whom periodically play shows here at a local concert venue called [the] Rev. Saturday the 13th was one such occasion, and once again I was blown away by how talented my friends are. My friend Joel’s band The Meadow, The Olive Grove and The Parson Red Heads all played that evening, and it was awesome.

Emily played first… her band is The Olive Grove, but sadly the rest of her band wasn’t at this show, so she pulled a one-woman show and sounded beautiful, as always.

The Meadow KILLED it. You guys, they did SO GREAT. I was glad I was sitting in the back, because I had the stupidest grin on my face the whole time they played. This concert was the first time they had all performed together, but you would never have known it. They had probably the most unusual instrument combination I have seen in a long time– recorder, upright bass (played with a bow instead of plucked– it was BEAUTIFUL), guitar, drums and accordion, all overlaid by Joel’s angelic voice. Also worth noting: Joel pulled out a quote from Strange Brew and made me laugh really loudly. Whoops. (The quote, if you were curious: “He’s a genius, eh? He hooked up our stereo at home.”)

The Parson Red Heads played fabulously, as they always do. For their classic Red Heads song “Punctual As Usual,” they invited Evan’s little sister and Brette’s sister’s son up on stage to perform along with them, since this is their home turf. Cutest thing ever, and I must say that Jamie has great rhythm on the drum… perhaps she’ll join the band at some point? :)

Anyway, all that to say… it was a great show.
