Hellllllppppp…. Meeee….

I need a new job, as I believe I’ve mentioned before. I’m curious, Oh Ye Who Read My Blog, what sort of job I should look for. Do you have any suggestions for me?
In the past I have worked as:
A preschool teacher (loved the kids, but the management was sort of lame)
An intern at my church (not available anymore)
A babysitter (love it, but crappy pay)
A barista/manageer (awesome coffee, and I might see if she’ll rehire me)
A customer service person (I would recommend never working here if you can possibly help it)
Currently I am working as:
A bookkeeper (not something I like well enough to make a career in)
An indie artist (fun, but the pay is crappy at this point)
I have taken some college classes (I’m a three-term sequence of science classes away from an Associate of Arts degree, but I’m not really interested in more school); I’m not a good enough bookkeeper to try and do it for someone else, nor do I like it well enough to learn more of it; I love kids but the thought of lesson plans makes my skin crawl a little bit; I like my Etsy shop but I make like a buck-fifty a month or something ridiculous like that, so it’s not really a viable option at the moment.
I’m leaning toward a coffee shop again, but I’m not looking forward to my hands falling apart again. The excessive hand-washing kills me. And I’ve thought about Starbucks, because of the great benefits, but the thought of only being able to wear black and white, and being required to wear an apron (aprons drive me nuts), and not being able to wear flipflops makes me shudder a little bit inside, so it would probably have to be an indie place.
What do you guys think? From what you’ve read of me in this post (I know I’m the pickiest person on the planet) and elsewhere on my blog and Twitter, what would be a good job for me that wouldn’t suck my soul away?

I loved working for starbucks! and you can wear khaki too, not just black and white. ;-) haha. But it’s probably not for everyone. Have you thought of being a nanny? it’s like babysitting but better pay (try sittercity.com or care.com)

How about becoming the blogger for your local paper or local news station?
SF’s CBS affiliate, KPIX 5, has their own local blogger and the online column (by Brittney Gilbert) is called “Eye on Blogs”: http://pod08.prospero.com/n/blogs/blog.aspx?webtag=kpix_eyeonblogs
The Washington Post has a similar online column called Blog Watch.
I can totally see you doing that kind of thing to start. I think you’d be fabulous at it — you’re doing it right now!

I’m not sure I know you well enough to give you advice, but from what I’ve read, barista fits. So does bookstore manager, writer, and the life of the idle rich.
Though I suppose we’d all sign up for that last one if we could…

Here’s some parental advice. Get a job. Any job. Not a life-fulfilling, fits-my-personality, dream job. Just a job where they’ll take you. Then, after you have that job, start looking for the perfect, self-satisfying, I’m-happy-with-my-career-choice job.

Whenever I needed a job, I would search the yellow pages for places where I thought it might be fun to work. Then I’d call and ask if they had any job openings. That saved a lot of time and face to face rejection. After about thirty phone calls, I had a list of interviews scheduled. Then I picked whichever one suited me best. And had the biggest paycheck.

If you want to move to Saskatchewan, I need someone at the group home, and I’d hire ya! On the side we could pimp out our Etsy shops and try make some moola! :)
